#LaPresse: “Best Western Plus: Great Value in Waterbury | Émilie Côté “
Now, the charms of Vermont are far from being summed up in Burlington. This is a fact well known to outdoor enthusiasts, but also lovers of beers. They know the village of Waterbury and its restaurant Prohibition Pig, among others. Vermont's best microbreweries are served, including the legendary Hill Farmstead brews or the equally famous Heady Topper, brewed nearby, in Stowe.
Many Montreal gourmets who go to Burlington to eat at the Hen of the Wood will also be surprised to learn that this is the second sign of the Vermontoise table, which first carved a solid reputation in Waterbury.
Considering all these factors, we rented a room at the Best Western Plus Hotel Waterbury for the low price of $ 125 US, through Booking.com.
Be aware that the hotel is managed independently even though it is affiliated with the Best Western brand. The family décor and après-ski is far from the trends of Scandinavian design. But as a couple with a young baby, we were delighted by the beautiful glassed-in pool, the fitness room, the restaurant, the living rooms and the outdoor terrace. And what about the view overlooking the green mountains up the hill where the property is located.
Especially since we were only a fifteen minute walk from the abundant supply of restaurants in the small town center of Waterbury.
Another hotel option closer to the center of the village would have been the Old Stagecoach Inn, but no room was available. However, in the end, with a child, we enjoyed the Best Western, especially for its beautiful indoor pool with views of the surrounding area.
In a room called The Green Mountain Room, there were also board games and a TV. Otherwise, teenagers staying at the hotel may need to enjoy the video games room with a host of bowling machines, or the ping pong table, while young children have fun in the outdoor playground . Meanwhile, their parents can stroll the grounds of the hotel, which is 14 acres and has a nice covered bridge.
The Best Western Plus Waterbury also has a restaurant, the Blush Hill Bistro. There are lunches and dinners (burgers, fish & chips, gourmet salads). There is also the famous Heady Topper beer.
Another attraction of the hotel is its location near the headquarters of the renowned Ben & Jerry's creamery, which offers guided tours of its factory, as well as the Cold Hollow cider house, renowned for its delicious, maple, and the Vermontois cheese counter Cabot.
Further on the road, five minutes away by car you find yourself in the heart of the village of Stowe, where there is a ski center and charming shops. It is here that the famous von Trapp family of the film The melody of the happiness after having fled Austria during the Second World War
