Federal well being officers say six Canadians have been suffering from a pressure of E. coli that has the same genetic fingerprint to romaine lettuce from the U.S. southwest that has already sickened 149 folks in 29 states.

The Public Health Agency of Canada says two of the six Canadians reported travelling to the U.S. earlier than falling in poor health because of E. coli O157, three turned contaminated in Canada and the remaining case is underneath investigation.

The six Canadian diseases had been reported between late March and mid-April in 4 provinces — one every in British Columbia and Alberta and two every in Saskatchewan and Ontario.

One Canadian was hospitalized and no deaths have been reported in Canada.

Two Canadians reported travelling to the U.S. earlier than getting sick and consuming romaine lettuce whereas they had been there. The others ate romaine lettuce at house, or in ready salads bought at grocery shops, eating places and quick meals chains, earlier than their diseases occurred.

The company says whether it is decided that contaminated romaine lettuce is within the Canadian market, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency will recall the product as required.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says romaine lettuce from the Yuma rising area in Arizona and California is not being produced and distributed, so the potential for publicity to contaminated lettuce is diminished.

At least 64 folks have been hospitalized within the United States, together with 17 with kidney failure. One loss of life, beforehand reported, occurred in California.
