A federal appeals courtroom upheld a copyright infringement verdict in opposition to Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over the 2013 hit tune Blurred Lines.

In a break up determination from a three-judge panel, the ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday awarded $5.three million US to the household of Marvin Gaye, who stated Blurred Lines illegally copied from the late soul singer’s Got to Give it Up.

Two judges from the panel of three rejected the defence’s request to overturn the decision or order a brand new trial.

Dissenting Judge Jacqueline Nguyen stated the choice has allowed the Gaye household to copyright a complete musical fashion.

Howard King, legal professional for Thicke and Williams, says he plans additional appeals.

An e mail to Gaye household’s legal professional Richard S. Busch wasn’t instantly returned.
