The mayor of Philadelphia and the NFL Players affiliation fired again at U.S. President Donald Trump after he disinvited the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles to the White House.

Late Monday, Trump stated he cancelled the go to after the crew stated it might ship a small group of gamers and workers.

“The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow,” Trump stated in a press release. “They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honour of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.”

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney stated Trump was not a “true patriot” following the cancellation of what usually is an annual custom for Super Bowl champions.

“Disinviting them from the White House only proves that our president is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend,” the mayor stated in a press release. “City hall is always open for a celebration.”

Last month, the NFL introduced it’s requiring all gamers and crew personnel to “stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem” or the crew will likely be fined by the league. The NFL introduced the anthem coverage following almost two years of protests began by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick started kneeling through the nationwide anthem in 2016, a quiet however highly effective protest towards police brutality and racial inequities within the justice system. Other gamers took up the trigger, and the gesture carried on through the 2017 season, even after Kaepernick left the 49ers and did not land a job with one other crew.

None of the Eagles took a knee through the anthem in 2017.

On Tuesday, the union representing NFL gamers stated it was “disappointed” with Trump’s choice and stated that smaller group occasions for younger individuals had been cancelled on account of the cancellation of the Eagles’ go to to the White House.
