NDP MP Charlie Angus (Timmins-James Bay) made the following statement:
“I have been granted an emergency debate on the crisis currently facing Laurentian University, its staff, students and the wider community.
“This institution which has given generations of francophone, Indigenous and working-class youth access to quality education is being ripped apart. This will have devastating impacts.
“The Liberal government and Ontario’s Conservative government have both failed the people of Northern Ontario, especially francophone, women, Indigenous, and working-class community members, by allowing Laurentian to plummet to such a sorry state.
“This debate will force the Prime Minister to address this crisis immediately, instead of passing the blame just like he’s done time and time again.”
